MAXI INVESTMENT OF ONE MILLION EUROS
Maxi investment of one million euros to protect traditional Maltese “feste”: 83 projects funded.
The Ministry of Culture has announced the beneficiaries of the Iskema ghall-Wirt Artistiku 2025 (Artistic Heritage Programme 2025).
An initiative aimed at safeguarding Maltese cultural and artistic traditions.
A record fund of 1 million euros has been allocated for this year’s edition, with 83 projects already selected in the first phase of the call for proposals, for a total of 800,000 euros awarded.
A second call for proposals is scheduled for August.
Minister Owen Bonnici has underlined the importance of this investment in favour of local communities that keep alive the traditions of popular festivals, also recognised by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage.
“Every year we increase our commitment to support these initiatives, keeping faith with the promise to protect Maltese cultural identity with concrete and sustainable interventions,” said Bonnici.
The programme provides support to various organisations linked to the world of traditional festivals: bands, groups that take care of decorations and lighting, as well as pyrotechnic associations.
This year, the increase of €300,000 compared to the previous year has allowed a 43% increase in available funding, providing breathing space and continuity to many local entities.
According to Mary Ann Cauchi, Head of Operations and Funding Strategies at Arts Council Malta, “this scheme represents a fundamental pillar for the protection of the cultural and artistic heritage of the country. Through it, we can ensure that traditional events continue to be accessible and enjoyable by the entire population.”
Cauchi also highlighted how the initiative fits fully into the strategic vision of the Council, which aims not only at the conservation, but also at the cultural regeneration of the Maltese Islands through the support of artistic diversity.
