MDINA THE ANCIENT CAPITAL OF MALTA

Mdina the ancient capital of Malta: within its fortified walls and thanks to its timeless beauty, it has mesmerized nobles during its 4,000 years of existence.

With its narrow, cobbled streets shrouded in an air of mystery, Mdina will transport you back in time.

The ancient capital of Malta, Mdina has had several names over the years, depending on its rulers and role during its 4,000 years since its foundation.

By taking this journey back in time, you will discover a surprising mix of baroque and medieval architecture, beautifully adorned and preserved churches, majestic palaces and fortified walls that transform this silent city into an open-air museum.

Located on a plateau, Mdina is home to a cathedral which suffered extensive damage due to an earthquake in 1693, later rebuilt by Lorenzo Gafa’ in 1702.

The floor of the cathedral is decorated with marble slabs with details of the coats of arms of the bishops of Mdina and other significant members of the cathedral.

A riot of luxury and nobility, Mdina exceeds visitors’ expectations, giving the impression that time has stopped as it retains a timeless elegance and beauty!
