CONSTRUCTION WORK SUSPENDED

Construction work suspended during the summer in Malta’s main tourist areas.

From 15 June to 30 September 2026, demolition and excavation works will be prohibited in selected tourist areas.

This initiative, coordinated by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA), takes into account the disruption that construction sites cause to nearby homes and hotels.

The enforcement of the Subsidiary Legislation is intended to reduce the inconvenience caused by construction sites to both the tourism sector and the growing number of Maltese families who have chosen to live in these areas.

The demolition and excavation phases of construction projects are particularly disruptive to surrounding residential properties.

The MTA is the competent authority responsible for identifying the localities and streets where demolition and excavation works are not permitted. The MTA reserves the right to modify or amend the list of streets at its discretion.

Malta is therefore committed to providing an increasingly enjoyable experience for visitors, especially during the summer months, when tourist arrivals reach their highest levels.

A tangible sign of Malta’s commitment to safeguarding the quality of its tourism sector.
